I wouldn't be surprised if Rydon or Sutton Council acquire the land and build a couple of houses on it as part of the redevelopment of Corbet. After all, they did try and buy the land a few years ago with no success!

what large trees are still there a lovely Horse Chestnut by the back entrance to the Green and another about the area that the flats are in,various fruit trees aside the river in the far corner and Cedar trees to the left of the drive as you come along . This property should never have been destroyed,it was the start of Hackbridge so in my book it was a HERITAGE PROPERTY and should have been kept, as i have said before it was in good repair and only needed minor repairs and may i say ,after building my own house here in Aussie with my Husband and i mean just the two of us i could do it myself.Doris H

Thanks for that very interesting info, and also all the memories of Hackbridge House which you have posted in the Old Hackbridge discussions.
It's great to hear from someone who actually lived here. Do you have any photos?

Hi Jo,i am Doris Hartin nee Chamberlain, please let me put you right about the Hackbridge House,Drill Hall, City house, all previous names for the same house ,in my case the same Home.

First the Cadets were not there in a Hostel ,they came on several days , their office was the gate house they used the actual Drill Hall position behind the big House and the Firing Range on top of the Large Garages, The TA had the Large house untill about the 1950s.

The dwellings along the front were for Service Families as we were told, i only  know of the cottages along the Green it is not possible for any to be on the other side of The Green because of the trees, there were large trees along from The Red Lion to the bridge, also there was not any miscellaneous  developement, How do i know? because i grew up in the Hackbridge House

and lived there after i was married and had Children, my Father was Caretaker there for Finsbury Barracks in London and Died there+ and yes i agree it should be called Hackbridge Gardens. Just putting things right.

Lots of discussion about the big house which stood where Corbet Close is now - on the Old Hackbridge photo:

Brilliant news, although I do feel for the residents in the flats who are about to loose their homes.

Jo also brought up at the meeting the problems we all had with the contractors inconsiderate parking when building the flats at the end of the road. We have been assured that this will not happen, Lets see.........
