"A one-way system might work. There are also problems turning left into Wandle Road from Elmwood Ave as cars and vans often park close to the corner, restricting visibility. There seem to be a lot more vans parked on this section of Wandle road…"

About me
I'm married (to Karalina Matskevich from Belarus)with two great school-age children. Our house backs onto the river Wandle where we row a dinghy and watch the kingfishers!
Worked as a psychiatric nurse specialising in psychotherapy, now retired and letting out property for a living.
For more than a decade co-ordinated an anti-nuclear campaign in Somerset, closing a Magnox nuclear power station and a nuclear incinerator. See www.stophinkley.org.
Worked for Greenpeace for 15 months cordinating local anti-nuclear groups around the country until the Government backed down on plans for new nuclear in 2003.
Long-time Green Party member. Vegan for 20+ years.

Pollution in the Wandle today

Big slabs of foam have been floating down the Wandle today accompanied by a chemical smell.

For most of the day wild fowl have deserted the stretch by our home and along Wilderness Island. On rowing out I couldn't find any stickleback fish which are usually there by the dozen.


The Environment Agency said it was caused by foam that was used to douse a fire two days ago at a tyre factory in Purley Way. Thames Water sent…
